Café Mila is a family-friendly café and bed & breakfast located in Oprtalj, Croatia. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and scenic location, Café Mila attracts both local and international visitors seeking a peaceful retreat. The client sought a website that could simplify the booking process and showcase the unique charm of their establishment.

The Challenge

Café Mila needed a streamlined, cost-effective solution to manage bookings and payments for its B&B services. They needed a bilingual website to cater to both Croatian and English-speaking visitors. A lightweight theme and custom coding provided a robust, efficient foundation, while a bilingual setup broadened accessibility. The site design emphasised visual storytelling with curated, high-quality images that capture the charm and appeal of Oprtalj.

Project Approach

  • Discovery workshop with Café Mila’s owners to get to know them, understand their business, its needs and their goals.
  • Conducted thorough research to identify a free plugin that could handle B&B bookings and integrate with a payment gateway.
  • Customised a lightweight WordPress theme, adding custom code to enhance site performance and security.
  • Strategically incorporated over 200 stunning photos to create a visually immersive experience that promotes Oprtalj as a tourist destination.
  • Implemented a cost-effective translation solution to make the site accessible to both Croatian and English speakers.

Results and Impact

Since the website launched, feedback has been very positive. The bilingual design and seamless booking system are expected to increase customer engagement, improve operational efficiency and reduce the need for manual bookings. The cost-effective solution is also expected to lower operational expenses by eliminating paid plugin subscriptions.
