The Problem
Paul Grand is a photographer whose work focuses on landscapes, atmosphere and the subtle drama of light and place. The site needed to present photography in a calm, gallery-like environment without distractions.
It also needed to support occasional exhibitions, print sales and new work over time. The overall experience had to reflect the tone of the work itself, thoughtful, atmospheric and carefully composed.
The Challenge
Build a site where the photography remains the primary focus rather than the interface.
Ensure large images load smoothly without compromising performance.
Create a structure that allows new projects and work to be added easily.
Balance visual impact with a calm browsing experience that encourages visitors to spend time with the images.
“A quiet digital gallery designed to let the work speak.”
What we built
We approached the project as a digital gallery, keeping the interface minimal and letting the photography create the experience.
- Bespoke WordPress build focused on image presentation.
- Gallery and portfolio structures designed for photography collections.
- Optimised image delivery to maintain quality while protecting performance.
- Simple content management so new work can be added easily.
- Responsive layouts to ensure the work displays well on all devices.
Outcome
The finished site acts as a quiet digital gallery, presenting the photography clearly while allowing the collection to grow naturally.
- A calm, image-led browsing experience that reflects the tone of the work.
- A flexible structure for adding new projects, exhibitions and photographs.
- Strong visual presentation across desktop, tablet and mobile.
- A platform that allows the photographer to manage and expand the collection easily.
What This Included
- Designed a restrained layout that allows images to breathe.
- Focused on strong full-width imagery to create visual immersion.
- Structured the site to allow projects and collections to grow over time.
- Ensured navigation remains simple so visitors can move easily between work.
Reflection
Photography websites work best when the interface steps back. The challenge is not adding features but removing anything that distracts from the images themselves.
If you're wrestling with a digital idea, an existing platform or a system that's no longer doing its job, we're happy to talk it through.
You don't need a polished brief to get started.
